Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Winsor & Newton is committed to making its website accessible and meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Key Accessibility Challenges Identified:

  1. Lack of Alternative Text for Images:
We recognize that some of our images lack alternative text, which is crucial for users relying on screen readers to understand visual content. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A) and 1.4.5 Images of Text (AA). We are working to fix this issue.

  2. Keyboard Navigation Limitations:
We have identified areas that are not fully navigable by the keyboard alone, which affects users who do not use a mouse or other pointing devices. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard (A). We are working to fix this issue.
  3. Video captions:
There are several video based content that do not have captions, which affects users who are deaf or hard of hearing. This fails WCAG 1.2.2 Captions (A). We are working to fix this issue.
  4. Visual Contrast Issues:
There are certain elements with insufficient contrast, potentially causing difficulties for users with visual impairments. This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast Minimum (AA). We are working to fix this issue.

  5. Insufficient Link Context:
Some links are not descriptive enough, hindering users from efficiently navigating the site using assistive technologies. This fails WCAG 2.4.4 Link Purpose (A). We are working to fix this issue.

  6. Challenges with Content on Hover or Focus:
We have discovered content that cannot be accessed or interacted with via keyboard navigation. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA). We are working to fix this issue.

  7. Focus Order and Visibility Concerns:
Several interactive elements do not maintain a proper focus order or visible focus indication, making navigation challenging. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA). We are working to fix this issue.

  8. Role and Attribute Misalignment:
Some elements lack appropriate role attributes, which may impede assistive technologies from interpreting the content accurately.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are scheduling fixes on the issues identified and working with our developers, content editors, and designers to consider accessibility in all new developments on our site.
