How to create Text Art using Promarker and fineliners: "Defy the odds"

The artist

Snooze One

I’m a lettering artist from Berlin with a passion for experimenting with letters. My interest in letterforms started with discovering graffiti at an early age. Shortly after that I got into calligraphy and continued to further explore the world of letters. My style is versatile and features several different tools, materials, and techniques. I’m always looking for a new perspective and new ways to write and build letters.

Step 1

Draw a grid on your paper to help structure your design. Divide your phrase (in this case, "Defy the Odds“) into three rows, ensuring the lettering is centered in each row.

Step 2

Roughly sketch the phrase within the grid. Focus on getting the general placement and shape of the letters. Refine the sketch as you go, experimenting with different lettering styles.

Step 3

Once your sketch is complete, choose 4 colours that complement each other.

Step 4

Place a clean sheet of paper over your sketch, allowing you to trace the letters without marking your final paper.

Step 5

Begin by tracing the outline of each letter. After outlining, fill in the letters with your chosen colours, applying the colour in a consistent stroke pattern.

Step 6

Use a Fineliner to draw in extra details and a black Promarker for thicker outlines. These additional touches will make your letters stand out and complete the design.
